Lovely Lilacs

I'll add some pix next time around, but I have to say "I'm thrilled with my new home!"
Now some of you have seen it & can say "Duh! Of course you're thrilled!"
But it's more than that.
Larry & I said this was our final move. We've been here since February (3 months) and have already begun discussions on "if" we move.
I was thinking about it over this weekend & I realized I'd NEVER lived in any one home longer than three years since 1984.
No wonder. We're not used to putting down roots of any depth.
Yeah, it's hard on the kids.
Yeah, it's hard on me (packing the boxes; unpacking the boxes).
Yeah it's hard on Larry (moving the boxes).
But still, we were discussing it.
Until I found the lilacs.
Since I was a little girl in the suburbs of Chicago, I've loved lilacs.
I love their color.
I love their smell.
Warm fuzzies.
When we moved in, I asked Larry if we could plant some, but he said there wasn't a spot.
I even thought the best spot to plant them would be along the wall where my bathroom window is. Then I could open the window in the spring & smell lilacs.
Now it's spring and all the bushes & plants around the house are awakening & blooming.
I found the lilacs.
They are planted along the wall by my bathroom window.
My window is open right now & if the wind blows just right, I can smell them.
Yep, warm fuzzies!

I love lilacs!! To me, they mean spring is finally here. They're wonderful. I could have every vase in the house filled to overflowing with lilacs. White, pink, purple... there's no such thing as too many lilacs. Too bad I'll never be able to plant any or have them in the house... at least not while we're living anywhere that my mother-in-law can visit. She's deathly allergic. How can anyone be allergic to something so wonderful??? What a shame! For her and for me! The first time I mentioned planting a lilac to my husband Jason, he said, "not if you ever want my mum to come visit again". Now, some wives would, at this point, say "hmmmm...". Not me, though. My mum-in-law is pretty terrific. Sure, she's a bit off-the-wall in some ways... she never quite does things the way normal people do them. But, clearlt, she did a better-than-average job raising my wonderful husband! For that reason alone, I am resigned to living lilac-less... but every time I walk past a lilac bush, you can bet I stop and smell them and sigh a little...

I ususally just look at people's blog pics and brief thier text - that was worth reading! When Nate proposed to me he had probably 50 lilac branches all around a big picnic blanket cause he knew I loved them so much - his mom has a huge fence filled with them! Good memories! I'm glad you found your lilacs!!!

I did the same thing with lavender in our last house. I planted it outside our bedroom window. Those were the days when I craved sleep and relaxation. Grant and Jack newborn days they were. I feel the same way about lilacs. I start smelling them two weeks before they bloom. They are heavenly and my favorite part of spring. Have you ever visited Mona, Utah this time of the year to see their fields of lavender? Stunning.
